Jawless Hog Tactical is a veteran owned training and advisory company located in southern Ohio. JHT brings experience from the Global War on Terrorism and modern tactical law enforcement. Decades of tactical operations knowledge help us use a behavioral based system to prepare for today’s domestic threats. JHT’s system helps the trainee understand their own reactions when placed in high-risk situations.

FOUNDER, Director OF Training

NICK SHEPHERD

US ARMY – 6 YEARS

POLICE OFFICER – 13 YEARS

SWAT – 9 YEARS

Nick hails from southern Ohio. After graduation, he answered the call, enlisting in the U.S. Army in 2003. During his 6-year military career, Nick learned tactics, leadership and communication skills as an operational mentor and liaison team member. Following deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan, Nick returned to Ohio with his family and started his career in law enforcement. As a police officer, Nick has filled multiple roles on his SWAT team, including SWAT commander. Additionally, Nick holds instructor roles for law enforcement, firearms, and tactics, and also teaches at the academy. He is a member of the Subject Matter Expert Board for Building Searches for the Ohio Peace Officers Training Commission.

FOUNDER, CHIEF TRAINING OFFICER

CHRIS McGOWAN

LAW ENFORCEMENT – 19 YEARS

SWAT – 13 YEARS

Born and raised in a military home in Germany, Chris is the son of an American father and German mother. During his teenage years, Chris moved to the Midwest with his father to finish high school, and later played Division II college football where an unfortunate injury sidelined his athletic career. Wanting to serve his community, Chris attended the police academy and joined his current law enforcement agency. Chris then looked for next level opportunities and worked to earn a spot on the department’s SWAT team. Seeking ways to improve both his and his team’s performance, Chris built programs and obtained advanced training to help increase his knowledge of tactical capabilities. Throughout his career, Chris has modernized his SWAT team’s technologies, methodologies, TTPs and has helped adjust tactics to better face modern and future threats. Chris has held patrol officer, SWAT team member, team leader and lead trainer roles. He has significant tactical operational experience within his department and through Joint Task Forces with other agencies.

LEAD MEDICAL INSTRUCTOR

SCOTT OSBORNE

US ARMY COMBAT MEDIC- 11 YEARS

PARAMEDIC – 17 YEARS

SWAT MEDIC- 7 YEARS

Scott hails from southern Ohio. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in 2003 as a combat medic. Currently he is a Sergeant First Class and is the Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of Medical Operations of the Ohio National Guard’s Medical Detachment in Columbus, OH. Scott gained valuable critical experience as a Certified Flight Paramedic working for HealthNet Aeromedical Services out of Charleston, West Virginia and MedFlight of Ohio based in Columbus. Scott stepped away from this role in Feb 2024 after 11 years and over 500 patient flights. In December 2021, Scott was sworn in as a Deputy US Marshal and assigned as a Task Force Officer to the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team where he serves as the team medic and operator.  Scott is currently a Captain at the Portsmouth OH Fire Department. Scott is also the owner of TriMed Tactical LLC. TriMed trains and supports TEMS/SWAT medics from all over the United States.

INSTRUCTOR

CHRIS LOWERY

US ARMY – 22 YEARS

Advanced EMT/Advanced TEMS– 7 YEARS

SWAT – 6 YEARS

Chris is from southern Ohio. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1993 as Light Infantry Scout in the 25th Infantry Division, and later the 10th Mountain Division. The last 17 years of his military career he served as a pilot in the UH-1 Huey, and as an Instructor Pilot in the UH-60 Blackhawk. After numerous deployments, Chris retired from the Ohio National Guard in 2015. Concurrently with his Ohio military career Chris joined the Portsmouth Fire Department in 1998 and served in all ranks including retiring as the Fire Chief. During his 25 years of service, Chris played a vital role in forming the City of Portsmouth TEMS and Portsmouth SWAT. Chris was sworn in as a Deputy US Marshal and assigned as a Task Force Officer to the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team where he serves as the team medic and operator/breacher. Currently Chris serves as an EMS pilot and instructor pilot for an Ohio based air medical company.
